Happy Sunday, all:
Well, we managed to escape the storm. I still cannot believe it. The two storm cells that were almost touching on radar split apart slightly as they moved down to N. Charleston, where Ed and I live. It was friggin amazing to watch, and WE were located dead center of the split. One cell went to the north of us and one to the south.
There was at least one confirmed tornado that touched down in Summerville, doing the most damage in a trailer park called "Strawberry Community". Ed's worker, Thomas, as well as Pauletti's brother-in-law live in Summerville, which is a short distance from where we live, which is upper N. Charleston close to Goose Creek. This storm was also said to have produced baseball and even GRAPEFRUIT sized hail in some areas.
Earlier in the evening I had called my sister Peggy, who lives about 2 hours (by car) northwest of me in Aiken, SC, to tell her a storm was coming. She knew and was already preparing for it, got her horses locked up in the barn, let the dogs out to pee, etc.
After the storm left Aiken, Peggy took her flashlight and walked her property to find two trees uprooted that had taken out two sections of her paddock fencing, and another that had snapped in half and taken out a third part of her paddock fencing. They lost power, which means they also have no water because they have a well with an electric pump. Dad also has no power for his oxygen machine and is using his small portable oxygen tanks sparingly until the power comes back. Last night she said "mom, dad and Aunt El (who are usually glued to the TV in the evening) are sitting in the living room reminiscing". They were having a grand old time after the storm...lol! Peggy told me she would go out early this morning to see if she can find gallons of water to buy at the store if the power wasn't back on. She'll also be sending me photos later of storm damage.
This is the same storm system that has wreaked havoc in Atlanta, GA these past few days. Of course, being a major city, Atlanta is getting most of the news coverage, but there was plenty of damage all along this storm path that is not getting news coverage. It was a monster of a storm.
